Tip of the Week 11-29-96
Where to Begin?
The Lord has allowed me to start two churches. (Both still going) In both of
those my family and I pulled into town with 4000lbs. of furniture on a
U-haul and no leads. Thus the age old problem of, If you have no building,
no people, no place to meet, where do you start?
This is a simple thing but it has worked well for me. The first thing I did
was went to the newspaper and placed a very simple, no frills ad. The ad
simply said:
WE ARE STARTING AN INDEPENDENT BAPTIST CHURCH
IN THE WHATEVER AREA. IF YOU ARE INTERESTED,
PLEASE CALL JEFF MERRICK AT 123-4567.
I ran these several times over few weeks. It costs little to run them. Some
papers even have inserts in which they will run an ad such as this for free.
The Lord led some good families to us through this simple little ad. If you
already have an interested family or two, or when you get them, change it to
read:
"Several families are starting an Independent......" This works even better.
